Pruning
Proper pruning of your trees and shrubbery is an investment in the long term health of the plant material and the safety of your outdoor living space. Developing a sound pruning program with the goals and desired outcomes in mind and conveying that to our clients is paramount. We follow strict ANSI A300 best practices when we care for your plant material. Prior to any work beginning, we develop a detailed proposal that includes the pruning objective, pruning system, types of cuts, amount and location of the cuts, and an estimated pruning cycle.
Pruning objectives are developed at the time of our initial consultation. We listen to the client and develop the objectives based on the species, location, and the current condition of the plant material. Sometimes it can be as simple as just removing a couple limbs that are over structures, but can be as complex as a complete reduction in density of the entire canopy.
We base our scope of work on eight specific pruning methods based on the ANSI A300 best practices for pruning (natural, topiary, pollarding, espalier, pleaching, fruit production, and bonsai) and directed by the clients goals and pruning objectives (improving structure, risk mitigation, providing clearance, maintaining health, reducing density, restoration, size management, shrub rejuvenation, flower or fruit production , improving a view, aesthetics, and managing wildlife habitat) and the tree or shrub species. For example, a desired outcome of a formal English garden has a different pruning system, then a natural, free flowing utilitarian hedge.
Many times it is difficult to see what was or is going to be performed within the canopy. Within our detail proposals, we give specific locations of the cuts, types of cuts, and the estimated amount of cuts so that we can dial in exactly what is to be expected, and the overall outcome after pruning.
Pruning cycles are dictated by all of the above mentioned specifications and ultimately, the species being pruned. Again, having a clearly defined pruning proposal that is based off our clients goals and expectations is our upmost importance. We want our clients to be satisfied with the scope of work we perform in their outdoor living space after the work is completed.
